Pool Decking Options
Decks in Houston sit on gumbo clay that never stops moving, so the material and the base matter as much as the look; pavers forgive movement that cracks stamped concrete.

Coping, Equipment & Water Features
Edges, equipment, and features finish the job: coping that suits the deck, a variable-speed pump and LED lighting on the pad, and a spillover or fountain if the yard calls for it.

A Smarter Path to a Beautiful Pool Remodel
Priorities, finishes, and hidden systems, planned together. Here is how we scope a Houston remodel so the surface, the deck, and the pad are done in one project rather than three.

Houston homeowners have impeccable tastes in outdoor living designs. We sure do love working to please them! Houston is the top city in the USA for custom pool designs. In the past few months we have had the pleasure of completing a pool replastering in Sharpstown, a firepit & fountain construction in Oak Forest, and a pool decking & coping project in Northline.
Houston has pools from every decade since the 1950s behind the houses of Memorial, Tanglewood, and the Heights, and a good share of them have been underwater at least once, which leaves silt in the plumbing and a shell that has been through more than its plaster shows. Gumbo clay under the decks never stops moving, and the live oaks over the older yards have been staining plaster for sixty years.
On an old Houston pool the first question is what has happened to it: how many layers of plaster, which flood, what the last owner patched. We find that out with the water out before anyone chooses a color, because the finish only lasts as long as what is under it.

Questions Houston Pool Owners Ask
How long is the pool out of service for a replaster?
About two weeks from drain to swim: a day or two to drain and chip, a day for the new surface, then the fill and a month of daily brushing while it cures. We plan it around your calendar because you are out of the water for the whole stretch.
Answered by a Blue Science pool builder, Greater HoustonCan you remodel an existing pool?
Yes, and most Houston pools are better candidates for a remodel than for a new pool. The shell is usually sound; what wears out is the surface, the tile and coping, the deck, the lights, and the equipment. A remodel drains the pool, repairs the shell and plumbing where needed, replaces the interior finish, tile, and coping, and can add lighting, water features, a sun shelf, or a new deck before fill-up and startup. In Houston the same company that remodels the pool can put it on a weekly route afterward, and the startup brushing for a new finish is part of the job.
Do you upgrade equipment during a remodel?
When it earns its place. With the water out, lights, fittings, drains, and plumbing connections are reachable in a way they will not be again for years, so LED lighting, a variable-speed pump, or automation get folded into the same Houston project when they solve a known problem or an energy hog. Equipment is evaluated on condition and compatibility, not replaced by default.
How long does a pool remodel take?
It depends on the scope. A resurfacing alone keeps a Houston pool out of service for a couple of weeks including cure and startup; add tile and coping and it runs longer; a full remodel with new decking and equipment is a project of several weeks. The written scope carries the schedule, and the sequence is planned so the pool is drained once and refilled once.
How do I know my pool needs resurfacing?
Rough plaster that scuffs feet, stains that no longer brush out, hollow spots or blisters where the finish has let go of the shell, exposed aggregate, and calcium nodules are the signs. Most finishes in Houston last a decade or more, but Gulf humidity, pollen, and afternoon storms shorten that. If the water is hard to keep balanced no matter what goes in, the surface is often the reason.
