Pool remodeling in San Antonio, TX from Blue Science: pool resurfacing, tile, coping, decking, lighting, and pool equipment upgrades planned as one project, with a written scope and budget before the pool is drained and one team from demolition to startup and completion. In San Antonio a pool remodel begins with an in-home consultation, a site visit, and samples looked at outdoors next to the house, so the pool design fits your existing swimming pool, your preferences, and the wear that hard water, cedar and oak pollen, and 90-degree water leave on a surface.

Love Your Pool Again
These are the finishes, decks, and features San Antonio owners choose most, shown in full so nothing is cropped. Edwards Aquifer water decides more of the surface choice here than color does, and we say which finishes hold up.

Pool Surface Options
In San Antonio, Edwards Aquifer water roughens plain plaster within a decade, so most owners step up to a pebble, quartz, or glass-bead surface that lasts and changes the color of the water.

Coping, Equipment & Water Features
Coping is chosen with the deck, lighting with how the pool is used after dark, and features with how much sound and motion the yard wants; all of it happens while the pool is open.

A Smarter Path to a Beautiful Pool Remodel
What to decide before the water comes out of a San Antonio pool, from the finish that will hold up to Edwards Aquifer water to the upgrades that only make sense while the lights and returns are reachable.

San Antonio pool owners have great pride in their state and we are proud to bring them the best in pool features and designs for their backyard. Whether that is in classical Texas style or modern European style, we enjoy them both. In the past couple of months we have enjoyed working on a pool replastering remodel in Stone Oak, a waterslide & LED lighting installation in Shavano Park, and a stone decking & firepit project in Windcrest.
San Antonio's oldest pools sit behind the houses of Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills, with plaster that has been scaled by Edwards Aquifer water since the 1960s, while the pools in Stone Oak and The Dominion are hitting the age where a 1990s or 2000s finish gives out. Either way the water is the same, and it is hard enough to turn any surface rough in about a decade.
Alamo Heights lots are small and the pools are close to the house, so a remodel is judged from the back porch as much as from the water. We hold finish and tile samples against the stone and stucco of the house in the yard, not in a showroom.

Questions San Antonio Pool Owners Ask
How long is the pool out of service for a replaster?
About two weeks from drain to swim: a day or two to drain and chip, a day for the new surface, then the fill and a month of daily brushing while it cures. We plan it around your calendar because you are out of the water for the whole stretch.
Answered by a Blue Science pool builder, Greater San AntonioCan you remodel an existing pool?
Yes, and it is the answer to most of the complaints San Antonio owners bring us: rough or stained plaster, tile falling off the waterline, a cracked or faded deck, lights that no longer work, and equipment that costs too much to run. Each of those is a remodel line item rather than a reason to start over. We evaluate the shell first, then scope the finish, tile, coping, deck, lighting, and equipment as one project so the pool is out of service once, not four times. Every San Antonio remodel is written up as one project, so you know what is included before the water comes out.
How long does a pool remodel take?
It depends on the scope. A resurfacing alone keeps a San Antonio pool out of service for a couple of weeks including cure and startup; add tile and coping and it runs longer; a full remodel with new decking and equipment is a project of several weeks. The written scope carries the schedule, and the sequence is planned so the pool is drained once and refilled once.
How do I know my pool needs resurfacing?
Rough plaster that scuffs feet, stains that no longer brush out, hollow spots or blisters where the finish has let go of the shell, exposed aggregate, and calcium nodules are the signs. Most finishes in San Antonio last a decade or more, but hard water, cedar and oak pollen, and 90-degree water shorten that. If the water is hard to keep balanced no matter what goes in, the surface is often the reason.
Should I remodel my pool or build a new one?
If the shell is sound, remodel. Almost everything an owner dislikes about an older San Antonio pool is on the surface or the pad: the finish, the tile, the deck, the lights, the equipment. A new pool makes sense when you want the pool somewhere else or in a different shape, or when the shell has structural damage. Our evaluation looks at the shell first and tells you which one you have.
